What a great tournament so far. The big upsets aren’t there like they have been the past few years. No GEORGE MASON or DAVIDSON or anything like that.

EAST TENNESSEE STATE pushed PITT to the edge, which was great, but they were just not able to pull off the first ever 16 over 1 upset. CLEVELAND STATE, WESTERN KENTUCKY, and DAYTON made it to the second round, but were stopped there.

Yes, a 12-seed is alive and well but that team is ARIZONA. This is a team that struggled at the end of the regular season and everyone thought that they didn’t deserve a tournament bid. Now everyone is saying ARIZONA has shown that the selection committee was right in picking them over ST.MARY’S. Well let me just say that although ARIZONA’S run is impressive they are still no more deserving than ST.MARY’S. The way ARIZONA got selected was the fact that they are ARIZONA. There is no other way to say it. If the same numbers had been for a team like OREGON or WASHINGTON STATE then there is no way one of those teams would have been selected. Congratulations though to ARIZONA, way to make the most of it. But don’t go thinking they are a Cinderella. They were an underachieving team who is finally showing what they can really do.

Everyone agrees that UCONN has been impressive. But I have contended all season that they show up big against lesser teams and then Hasheem Thabeet goes into hiding. We’ll see how they do when the going gets tough. PITT has been the underachieving #1 seed playing ETSU close and having to hold off a game OKLAHOMA STATE team. UNC, while working with a hobbled Ty Lawson, has been great, but now the competition heats up against GONZAGA. I have UNC winning it all, but I think this could be a good, high-scoring shootout. VILLANOVA, XAVIER, SYRACUSE, and DUKE have all been impressive in making it to the Sweet-16; do any of them have a run in them? Or will this season end like so many basketball “experts” have picked; with the 4 number 1’s making the Final Four; PITT, LOUISVILEE, UCONN, and UNC? I don’t see it, someone’s going down.

Does TO not showing up for mandatory workout….yawn…blah blah blah, blah blah.

The United States was eliminated from the World Baseball Classic 9-4 by defending champions, Japan, last night (Sunday). The U.S. pulled to within two runs and had a runner on third with just one out but Evan Longoria and Brian Roberts were unable to come through in a crucial situation and the Japanese pulled away in the bottom of the inning. The WBC sucks anyways, so we don’t care if we didn’t win. It’s not like it really matters, no one cares, MLB is the only thing that matters. That sentiment may be true in America, but not everywhere else. Other countries actually take pride in their team; to us it’s spring training. Don’t be surprised if we never win it all.

And get ready folks, the long awaited debut of Acworth Parks Softball Coed-Adult League newest and most hyped slow-pitch team Joe’s Crabs is just around the corner. This fast and powerful team is anchored by Late Night Sports co-anchors Jake Stoll and John Edwards…Kathy has “commitment” issues”, so she will not be joining us. Late Night Sports fan favorite Michael Pleu is also slated to appear on the team but has yet to come to a financial agreement. Negotiations are ongoing and both sides hope an agreement can be reached.

For more of me…John…and I guess Jake and Kathy….be sure to check out Late Night Sports Tuesdays @ 11:00 p.m.

Oh yea and Curt Schilling retired….you can check out his blog somewhere…but I don’t care.
