Local News –
- Cherokee Sheriff’s Office detectives have solved a multi-jurisdictional entering auto crime spree with the arrest of two suspects. The investigation began when deputies responded to a neighborhood in Canton that had multiple car break-ins in December of 2009. Since then it is believed the suspects are responsible for at least 35 car break-ins in Cherokee County Canton, Alpharetta, and Forsyth County. Detectives believe there are many more incidents that have not been reported and have a large quantity of property that has not been claimed.
Cherokee detectives are compiling photographs of the stolen property which consists of purses, wallets, MP3 players, GPSs, cell phones and other small electrical devices. If anyone believes they fell victim to these individuals and can prove ownership of the property they should come to the Criminal Investigation Office located at 7545 North Main Street in Woodstock AFTER next Tuesday February 9th. The number to that office is 770-928-0239. - On Sunday, January 31, 2010 at about 5:00 P.M., two girls, 12 and 14, called 911 to report that an unidentified man exposed himself to them. Woodstock Police officers and a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office investigator arrived within minutes of the radio broadcast and conducted a search of the immediate area but the suspect was not located.
The two girls told police that they were walking north on the sidewalk along Running Deer Parkway in Towne Lake. As the girls approached Cinema View, they saw a man emerge from behind a section of shrubbery located on the southwest corner of Cherokee 16 Cinemas.
The girls described the suspect as a white man, 18-20 years old with a military style short haircut.
Anyone with information that might help identify the suspect is encouraged to contact the Woodstock Police Department at (770) 592-6000. - from WSBTV.com – A body was found inside a wheel well of a Delta Air Lines plane after it landed in Tokyo from New York, and Japanese authorities Monday were trying to identify the man.
The body of the apparent stowaway was clad only in a long-sleeved, plaid shirt and jeans, police at Narita International Airport said.
A mechanic found the body lying inside the landing gear compartment of the Boeing 777-200 during maintenance after Delta Flight 59 landed Sunday night, police official Zenjiro Watanabe said.
“All we know is that he must have sneaked in just before departure, because it is impossible for him to enter the storage during flight,” Watanabe said. Police are trying to identify the man.
Politics –
- In an interview broadcast on CBS News on Sunday, President Barack Obama stated his desire to meet with Republicans on the languishing health care bill currently in limbo between the houses of Congress. President Obama said he would ask Republicans to “put their ideas on the table” in an attempt to break the GOP’s deadlock opposition to the bill. President Obama went on to say “I want to come back and have a large meeting, Republicans and Democrats, to go through systematically all the best ideas that are out there and move it forward.”
- On Monday, Representative John Murtha (D, PA) passed away after suffering from complications due to gall bladder surgery. In 1974, Representative Murtha became the first combat veteran of the Vietnam War to serve in Congress
Entertainment –
- from CNN.com – Dr. Conrad Murray, personal physician to Michael Jackson, was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the pop star’s death last summer.
A criminal complaint filed earlier in the day alleged that Murray “did unlawfully, and without malice, kill Michael Joseph Jackson.” - from Us Weekly – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are suing a London tabloid for claiming that they were planning to split.
The couple’s lawyer Keith Schillings tells BBC News that Pitt, 46, and Jolie, 34, have begun legal proceedings against the News of The World tabloid, which reported Jan. 24 that the two had agreed to divide their assets and made arrangements for the custody of their six children, Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara , 5, Shiloh, 3, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 18 months.
