Ode to Hip Hop

Do you remember where you were when you first heard hip hop? Do you remember how it made you feel? Every syncopated beat, poetic chorus and effortless rhyme; maybe you were just in high school watching Soul Train when suddenly you heard the first rap verse flow from the lips of the Sugar Hill Gang’s Rappers Delight, or maybe even a suburban kid singing along to Outkast without a care in the world. Like an arrow through our hearts, hip hop from then on forever changed our culture, communities and uplifted voices to hear and be heard. Atlanta’s Annual Hip Hop Festival celebrated the virtues of hip hop culture through various show casings of talented rappers, nostalgic music, amazing b-boys and girls, as well as, interesting venders and activities. Musical artist headlines included, Young Motive and Joane Cruz who debuted their original songs and MC flair. For lack of better words this event defiantly was a “throwback” and an Ode to Hip Hop.
