1. The Determined Smokers

This group is easily spotted on rainy days, as their clouds of smoke contrast against the darker skies. They’re huddled together under the gazebo near the Social Science Building helping one another light their cancer sticks in the wind.

2. The Rainy Day Fashionista

Her umbrella matches her rain boots, and likely matches the rest of her outfit. This fashionista doesn’t let a little bad weather rain on her girly parade, and she may even own a matching raincoat. What’s in this season: pink, zebra, plaid, polka dots, or any combination of the aforementioned.

3. Girl Who Didn’t Check The Weather Channel

Clearly she got dressed before she opened the curtains this morning. Her hair’s in some elaborate style that’s being flattened and glued to her face by the downpour. She’s wearing ballet flats, tights and a white t-shirt. Then again, maybe she did…

4. Guy Who Isn’t Affected By Weather

He’s wearing a t-shirt on a rainy, freezing February day. No jacket, no umbrella, no anything. You wonder if he’s really that invincible or if he’s just trying to be tough.

5. The Blessed One

…How is he/she still dry?! No umbrella, no hoodie, yet not a drop on his/her clothes upon arrival to class. His/her hair is perfect, leading you to think you may be in class with Jesus.

From the AJC:

Legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley confirmed to the AJC he has met with Kennesaw State officials about a role in developing a football program at the school.

“I have been visiting with them about a consulting position,” said Dooley, who acknowledged he was intrigued by the idea of building a program from the ground up. He said further statements would have to come from KSU.

School officials declined comment Thursday but said they will be holding a news conference Dec. 10 to announce the formation of a football exploratory committee. On Tuesday, school officials confirmed that a new stadium being built for the woman’s soccer team could be expanded to accommodate football.

“Ever since I was nominated as president, I’ve been asked, ‘What’s the story on football?’ ” said KSU President Daniel Papp. “Well, now we’re going to have, conceivably, a place to play.”

Dooley’s role likely would be similar to one played by former Falcons coach Dan Reeves at Georgia State. Reeves offered input to GSU, which will field its first team in 2010.

Earlier in the semester, Kennesaw State’s SGA approved a $35 increase in student fees to fund a stadium which is under construction currently at the corner of Busbee and Big Shanty Roads. The stadium will be used by the Atlanta Beat women’s soccer team as well as the potential Kennesaw State football team:

The stadium is the centerpiece of a park that is expected to include seven fields that can be used for practice or intramural sports, a rugby field and nature trails on a 21-acre parcel of land between George Busbee Parkway and I-575 along Big Shanty Road.

While university and foundation officials stressed that the stadium is being built with the intention of being a women’s soccer-specific facility, it also can accommodate outdoor concerts, as well as high school sports such as football and lacrosse.

In addition, there is potential for the stadium’s construction to present a key piece toward the adoption of football as a varsity sport in the future. Papp said it will be possible to expand the stadium’s seating to 22,000 if the school decides to pursue football, and KSU will announce the formation of a football exploratory committee next week.

This news is exciting for Kennesaw State University. As recognition of the university grows, so does the value of a Kennesaw State degree!

With a $5 dollar donation, you can build a gingerbread house this holiday season. From November 30th – December 2nd, come help out the ABLE Scholarship and the Dream House for Medically Fragile Children from 11am-3pm daily in the food court.

The KSU chapter of Invisible Children is currently holding a book drive. Any and all old or unwanted books are wanted. You can find the orange and white collection bin in the lobby of the Social Science building. In the coming week, three more bins will be placed around campus. Join the group tomorrow the 18th at Wesley Methodist church on campus loop road beginning at 8pm. Assist the KSU Chapter of Invisible Children in their November donations. Their monthly goal is $1000 and they have already collected $860 thanks to last weeks bake sale and help from students like you.

Donate to The Extension with Lambda Pi Eta. Their efforts are going towards a community-supported organization in Marietta that provides several services such as addiction recovery, programs for the homeless, and other outreach initiatives. A list of appropriate items can be found on the 5th floor of the Social Science building outside of the Communication Department door. This is also where you will bring your donations. Just to list a few, they are looking for such items as paper towel, toilet paper, toothbrushes, sheets, towels, light bulbs, etc.

Congratulations to KSU as we continue to grow. Fall 2009 enrollment surpassed 22,300 students, a growth of 4.4%. KSU remains Georgia’s third largest university, with freshmen applicants and transfer students also increasing continually. KSU is more and more often becoming “a college of choice”.

The American Red Cross is back with a blood drive, continuing today from 9am-5pm. You still have plenty of time to donate in the Student Center University Rooms. Remember, the Red Cross is always in need of blood. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

The 32nd Annual Turkey Trot is this Friday the 20th. Participants have an option of a 5k run or a 1-mile fitness walk beginning at 3pm on the day of the event. Registration and check in are just an hour before at 2pm at the front entrance of the Wellness Center. Participants will receive a long-sleeved race t-shirt and entered in a raffle to win a number of door prizes. Registration is free for all who would like to partake.

Enjoy this week in arts as the Chakra Dance Concerts perform Tuesday-Saturday. Tickets are $12 and each show begins at 8pm in Stillwell Theater.

Upcoming Sports!

Sunday the 22nd- KSU Women’s Basketball plays Longwood University in the convocation center at 1:30pm.

Tuesday the 24th, Women’s basketball plays Clemson at 7pm.

Fall break is coming up next week. No class begins on Tuesday the 24th. Everyone enjoy your break and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
