So those of you who tuned in today may have heard me mention that I was playing in an upcoming disc golf tournament…The Atlanta Open.  Many of you probably know nothing of competitive disc golf, nor know anything about disc golf in general.  It’s ok, I’m not real sure if I do either

You’re probably wondering what is disc golf.  Well, at its basic level…it’s throwing a Frisbee into a target.  But it’s way more complex than that.  This is a really awesome (but basic) video of what disc golf is really about…having a great time.  That’s why I enjoy playing it.  I started playing tournaments from the Professional Disc Golf Association last fall, and I loved it.  Playing with friends is great fun, but tournament play is where its at.

I need to give you some terminology here since disc golf isn’t like traditional sports here.  The amateurs play the same tournaments as the pros do.  The pros play against each other while the ams play in separate divisions while on the same course…you follow me so far??

The divisions are as follow from least to greatest in level…

Novice-Am (where I should play)

Recreational-Am (where I play)

Intermediate-Am (where I hope to play at the end of this season)

Advanced-Am (we’ll see when I play here :/ )

Open-Pro (pigs will fly on a cold day in hell, but I’ve got some extra wings to give out)

You got all of this so far??

The two courses featured in the AO are Central Park, and the super frustrating and difficult East Roswell Park (well, it’s difficult to me ).

Central Park is 5 miles from my house.  So I mostly play there a lot.

Now onto my preparations.  I’ve been working a lot on my putting.  That’s my favorite part of the game.  I also have been working on my throw a lot.  I struggle with getting the discs to fly far.  But that’s just me.  I have friends who can throw 380-400 feet (that’s really long in case you don’t know).

I’m also working out some to get into shape…the Good Lord knows I need that.  I need to be doing more of that in fact…Hopefully this will be a great opportunity for me to show everyone in the rec division what I’m made of…human organs.  What did you think I was made out of? lol!
