Well, health care passed. That monstrosity of a bill is now law. Though it could have been far, far worse (and we have our Republican Senators to thank for saving us from a public option), it can still ruin the insurance industry. Before you talk about how evil the insurance industry is, ask yourself: can we really afford to cripple the people our entire health care system is based on and run by? What’s the alternative, have the government run it?

Think about it.

I covered this a bit on the last show, but I wanted to go into a bit more detail than my management of time would allow. So, here we are.

2009 has certainly been interesting. We got a deepening economic crisis, a Congress with a “spend to make money” attitude, and an irresponsible administration that has finally, at the end of its first year, seemed to begin to understand how terribly ineffectual (not to mention damaging) its attempts to “save” America really have been. Nearing the end of the year, we see Congress enact one of the most sweeping pieces of economic control legislation this nation has ever seen. This is a terrible trend, ladies and gentlemen. Control. That is what this government is after. They were successful in gaining control of major parts of the American auto industry, they now have gained significantly more control over the financial sector than they have had in the past, and they seek now to gain control of the way we conduct our lives and business in the form of climate-change legislation. Additionally, they seek to gain a substantial level of control over the health care industry (though, thankfully, they have been effectively countered on that issue, if the debate currently occurring in the Senate is any indication). With these trends clear in 2009, it is no stretch to imagine them continuing into 2010 and beyond.

2010 will be important because of its proximity to the next two elections in America: 2010 and 2012. 2010 is the more pressing, obvious matter, due to it being a mere 11 months away at the time of this writing. The primaries are only a few months away, and voters will go to the polls and determine the direction our country takes after November. A good question would be whether conservatives or liberals will come out on top, both in the individual parties and the nation as a whole. A better question would be whether or not voters want government to continue to extend its control over more and more aspects of their lives. That is really what this boils down to. 2009 has shown without a doubt that the current Congress and president want more control – over businesses, industries, and individuals. 2010 is our chance to show those in power that we do not want our interests centralized in the United States’ government bureaucracy. We can vote those who advocate control out, and vote in those who desire individual freedom and view it as an important right of each and every American citizen. This message reaches across party lines. Were it the Republicans advocating control (as they did with the Patriot Act), I would have serious concerns as well. I call attention to the liberals because they are the ones currently advocating extended government control. This is what 2010 is about.

So in 2010, do not make the issue that decides your vote Democrat vs. Republican, or even liberal vs. conservative. Make it control vs. freedom. Because that is at the heart of this Congress’s agenda. Let us show them that we will not allow them to increase their control over us.

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the grand unveiling! Barack Obama, our fearless leader, finally has a plan for BOTH the economy AND Afghanistan! Rejoice, my friends, REJOICE!

What’s that? Oh right, they both SUCK. Obama finally revealed his Afghanistan plan, promising to deploy 30,000 additional troops to the country (3/4 of what General McCrystal asked for), with a planned date to begin pullout in July 2011. That’s right, we just told our enemies when we’re going to quit fighting them. I don’t think I have to explain the stupidity of that one.

In the economy, Obama is getting ready to have a summit on jobs with several corporate executives. You know, the guys Obama said were all greedy and part of the reason for the economy having problems? Yeah, those guys. Obama has essentially admitted he has no clue what he’s doing at this point, so he’s going to have these guys over and have them put cards in a suggestion box. That’s not hypocritical at all.

Seriously, though, these incidents just go to show that when you get all the way down to it, Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing. He has to have so many people telling him what to do on anything that it really makes me wonder sometimes: who’s really running the country?
