So. We’re tired of Healthcare. It’s not fun. Granted. But still, we need to learn more about it. Why? Because Somehow, somewhere, someONE is going to pay for it. We know it’s going to happen, Health Care reform is needed and it’s on EVERYONE’s mind… But the real question is: What will happen once it’s changed? Will we really get better health care? Or will we be paying a bunch of money to get sub par health care? What will this effect? Will it effect our tuition in anyway? Or what happens with our medicines we go to get at the Drug Store? You know even the cough drops for that nasty cold we’ve been fighting all winter? Will those prices begin to change…to be more expensive? What about our taxes? Will they be raised? What will be the economic fall out? Will we get more jobs? Will we loose more jobs?

This week on Story with Amie, we are going to get the “Story on Health Care”. Boring? Meh. BUT Joel Foster will be a guest, so will Don Sabbarese then the BIG EVENT Where YOU The STUDENTS can have a voice and go tell the Representatives what YOU want. Go meet Phil Gingrey who is one of our Reps in the House of Reps (That’s the one up in D.C.) and Judson Hill who will be there (Yeah, the one here locally) and the Chief Financial Officer at WellStar and a few others. But the big thing is: Figuring out what this is, making an informed decision and then letting them know what YOU want. What is the right thing to do in YOUR mind.

Hey, I’m not paid to be original in my titles. I am however, excited about the shows last week. We got to uncover Dr. Wassmuth, the head of the Department of Communication and the President of the Haitian Student Alliance. Why did I choose these two wonderful women to be on my show? Because the world needs strong leaders like them who aren’t tight wads but can have fun too while really paving the way for greatness.

Cool random facts you probably didn’t know about Dr. Wassmuth:
-She’s wonderfully progressive. Seriously. Go talk to her, she’s amazing.
-She likes racing. Watching, yes, but she would much rather get in the car and race the track
-She likes German Techno.
-She listens to NPR
-She has big plans for the COM department. Like: Getting a grad school up and going and dreams to have a “School of Communication”. I’m so down for that!
-She almost became a Professional Ballroom Dancer
-She lived in Minniapolis (sp?) where she did some extream winter sport stuff.
-She is full of super fun facts. She came on on National Bubble Wrap Day.
-She loves coffee (decaf) and is so vivacious it’s wonderful.
-AND::::: Next time, she’s going to be on, we’re going to talk about one of her former students. Brad Pitt. What? You think I’m lying? ASK HER!
And that is just the beginning.

There is nothing more thrilling for me, as a radio show host to reveal a different side of someone that most people don’t take the time to see. When I originally invited Dr. Wassmuth on my show, I knew very little about her, but she impressed me so much in a class I had that she was our guest speaker, I knew I had to have her on air. Little did I know that she really is a woman that not only *I* can admire, but every woman at KSU can. BONUS! She cares about the students, she really does. You meet her once, she will remember you.

Nicolette is the President of the Haitian Student Alliance. I had her on air because I am so impressed with this organization. They have really stepped up to the plate with wanting to help Haiti, and organizing things. Of course, she will quickly share the responsibility of who did what, but on air, she sang a song called “Prayer” – solo, no music and there was no words to describe how powerful that was. The clarity the sincerety. She cares about her friends in Haiti, the situation there, the people. She told me about the culture, the history of Haiti. It’s really a beautiful thing. They are still collecting items to ship to Haiti!

All in all, a fabulous week celebrating two very strong women who really are great role models.

Seriously, how cool is the Pres. of KSU? This week has been frakken JAM PACKED with crazy news- but the most crazy is this shooting (right down the road) and this Earthquake over in Haiti.

Fortunately, we have our fearless leader *Points to Pres. Papp* who works around the clock (or so it seems) to try to help us out. It was the response to Haiti that has really garnered my attention. He has always been forthright about all questions, very open, and quite frankly a great guy to get to know. Everytime I’ve had the absolute PLEASURE of meeting him, one thing rings loud and clear and that is his “top priority”…. that would be us. the Students. The note that was sent campus wide was even more amazing- because he made it very clear the registrar, financial aid, etc etc would be willing to help our fellow comrads who have been affected (effected? How do you choose those words? Really?) by this horrible tragedy.

So why do I bring up “He Who Must Be Obeyed?” Because Dr. Papp did something that I don’t think I have ever seen a President of KSU ever do. If I’m wrong please correct me. He issued a statement that blatantly supports the International Group here on campus that is gathering supplies for Haiti, and he has OK’d the school to open up an account so students can donate through the school. This is great because we’re here, life is better. But he sent the e-mail sometime today.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Papp on Monday and asked him many questions about many things. However, you can read that in the Sentinel. It’s at times like this, that you can really see our school going to a great direction. The complaint could be- why did it take so Gosh darn (place your own words in here) long to get something started? Well, my best guess is the red tape and “proceedures” that are in place. Proceedures. At least, we know that KSU is doing all it can to help.

This week on Story with Amie, it was quite entertaining. We first went to Italy with Helen Rutchi’s book “La Bella Vita”. It is a fun book, very informative for those who love Italy. I have always wanted to go so, it made me happy to read it.

We also had a fun free fall day with special guest host, Derek. We didn’t have the usual heavy loaded conversation that I usually go into with my guests. Instead, because of finals and stress, we went with anything goes. Remember SNICK? The old school Nickelodean? That was the topic of Wednesday.

From here on out till the end of the Semester, be prepared for light hearted stuff because – it’s finals. I’m wishing everyone lots of luck and the best of vibes. It’s almost over, ya’ll!
