KENNESAW, Ga. (Sept. 20, 2012) — Kennesaw State University was recently recognized with the grand prize for the campus directory mobile website in the Technology Association of Georgia’s (TAG) competition for mobile apps in government.
The University’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department scored the highest overall in a number of criteria including innovation, creative, performance, look/feel, and impact and value to the organization.
Kennesaw State’s campus directory mobile app allows anyone anywhere in the world with Internet access to quickly and easily locate current name and contact information for faculty and staff.
“Winning the grand prize award for mobile apps in government was a team effort,” said Lectra Lawhorne, executive director of Information Technology Services. “The goal was to create an easy-to-use and cutting-edge site for web and mobile users to easily access the information they need. Thanks to the leadership of Randy Hinds, Kennesaw State’s chief information officer, we were able to work with teams from across the organization to make this project a reality.
“Also it is important to note that McCree Lake, who heads our operations and development teams, as well as his talented team of developers including Herman Owens, Matthew Sims and Anay Limaye, worked tirelessly to ensure that the application performed to its highest potential and that all of the processes and data flowed effectively. With the help of the entire ITS team, the application was tested, secured, and improved to become what it is today – an award-winning system.”
With help from Human Resources and Academic Affairs, all information is automatically updated to the sites. In addition to supporting users on the latest platforms, the sites also can offer functionality to users on older systems as well.
The competition involved the initial application and a presentation to the judges representing the Georgia Institute of Technology, the state of Georgia and the Atlanta-based First Data Corporation, a global payment processing company. Kennesaw State provided the judges with an overview of the development process, the database and processes that run the directory, as well as the functionality and security of the application.
As the state’s preeminent technology association, TAG plays an important role in connecting more than 17,000 members with peers and decision makers at every level of an organization. TAG conducts more than 200 meetings and special events every year around the state.
