The Kennesaw State club tennis team will look to capture its first tournament win in club history this weekend at the Tennis on Campus Southern Championship at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. on Feb. 23-24. This club had some success last year at Auburn, as they made a run into the semi-finals before falling to Elon University. That loss stung, but it is old news. For many of the returning players, this year is a whole new story and a new beginning. They have already had success so far this year, as they placed 3rd at the United States Tennis Association’s Kennesaw Fall Invitational, their first home tournament in team history, at Kennesaw Mountain High School last semester. There they competed against major schools like Georgia Tech, Georgia, Kentucky, Georgia State, and Tennessee.  As for the competition, Tennis on Campus tournaments attract all major universities from around the country and the majority of the club teams consist of former division I players and high school varsity players. At least 36 schools will be competing for the Southern Championship in Auburn and KSU will have quite a fight ahead, but they are up for the challenge. If they place in the finals, KSU will qualify for the USTA National Championship in Surprise, Ariz. April 11-13, which will be another milestone for this young team. Go Owls!
