After six long years, Adele is finally back with her fourth album, 30. Much like with previous albums, listeners are sure to have a good cry with this one. Not only does this album stay with the theme of heartbreak, but there is also a theme of mental health and wellbeing. The third track, “My Little Love,” touches on Adele’s feelings of loneliness, anxiety, etc. while also including excerpts of conversations between her and her son. The overallmessage of this song is relatable to those who struggle with feeling isolated and stressed out. Towards the end of this track, the background vocals and instruments are taken away to spotlight the string section. This somber string part brings the song and its theme of mental wellbeing full circle. Not every song deals with mental health though. Songs like “Cry Your Heart Out” and “All Night Parking” are the happier songs of the album. “Cry Your Heart Out” inspires listeners to feel their feelings and then keep moving forward, despite the obstacles. One major aspect that makes this album great is that each song has elements of different genres thrown in. “Strangers By Nature” has a melodic line that sounds like it could be in a jazz song, while “I Drink Wine” includes elements of gospel within the melody, harmony, and the piano part. This album should be on everyone’s radar. Listening to it in its entirety is therapeutic. With everything going on in the world right now, everyone could use a bit of healing.
