J $ENSEI is an Atlanta artist that is slowly rising to mainstream success. With over 10,000 listeners on Spotify alone, his place in the musical forefront will come sooner rather than later. When asked about how he got into music, he said “I played Guitar Hero 3 when I was a kid and ended up finding out about the band, The Strokes. I wanted to be like Julian Casablancas, the lead singer. So, I asked my mom for a guitar, and it started from there.” From there, J $ENSEI has released a plethora of music. His first Spotify single, “Fumes,” was released in 2019. After the release of that first single, more singles followed. J $ENSEI later released his first full length EP titled, It’s Bc Ur an Aries in February of this year. He notes that he draws most of his musical influence from artists such as The Weeknd and The 1975. The influence from these artists is certainly present in the EP. Throughout the EP, there is a combination of elements from Indie Pop and Rap. The first track, “PIPSQUEAKS/PILLOW TALK” starts off as a Rap song by having a lyrical flow paired with a heavy percussion and bass. The song transitions midway into an Indie Pop song, complete with softer percussion and a more relaxed vocal delivery. Regarding the future of his music, J $ENSEI said, “I’d just like to say that I’m trying to constantly evolve my sound and expand pop. I want to be the biggest artist in the world.” J $ENSEI’S music can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. He is also active on Instagram.
