Kamal Saucier, “Kamal Akin” being his stage name, is a 21-year-old rapper/beatmaker from Douglasville, Georgia. He got into music when he was nine years old, shortly after Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died. Around that time, he had a feeling that he should be doing some form of entertainment as a career. It was not until he was 13 years old that he started making beats. During the interview, Kamal Akin said, “I heard some beats online and thought, ‘I could do better beats than those.’” Clearly, music was the right fit for him. He released his first Spotify single titled “Get Down” in 2020. He also released his debut album Sunday Vibes in the same year. When asked about who his influences are, he had this to say. “I would say Kanye West, Khary, Kid Cudi, Alessia Cara, Childish Gambino, and Logic.” After the release of his first album, Kamal Akin has had a steady stream of singles and EP’s. Regarding his process, he said, “I want to say that I’m always working on new music. Right now, I’m writing more and focused on rapping and singing more on my music, because that was always the main goal.” Most of Kamal Akin’s music can be found on Spotify and his earlier works can be found on his Soundcloud. Give his music a listen. It does not disappoint.
