Mozzy may be an unfamiliar name to most in the rap game. Originally going by the name “Lil Tim” when he first began his rap career in 2004. Mozzy, real name Timothy Patterson, didn’t really get any buzz when he first started out. In 2012 he changed his rap name to Mozzy hoping to reinvent his career. In 2015 he got a little attention fro his album “Bladadah” which was ranked 22nd best rap album of 2015 by the Rolling Stone. Complex Magazine gave hi “Best Run” of 2015. If you do not know Mozzy he has a now famous Instagram post of him pouring out lean urging other people to do the same with the “Put the cup down” Challenge. Shortly after this happened Fredo Santana passed away, he infamously drunk lean.

Earlier this month Mozzy released an EP titled “Spiritual Conversations”. Mozzy proves why he is still an OG when it comes to rapping. My personal favorite song on this EP is “Nobody Knows” featuring Jay Rock and Dcmbr. This is one of those rare songs that have no chorus and everyone on the beat kills it. Mozzy comes in rapping

“I had to grind, had a lot of money on my mind

Started off with a drawer full of dimes

Started lookin’ for love, it was hard for me to find

B*****s tell me they love me, I never believe them lies”

These first few bars Mozzy spirts are a story everyone knows far too well. Mst people weren’t blessed with a golden spoon in their mouths. Most people had to get out here and do what they can to service in this dog eat dog world. Loves is another tune were all know and heart-break is something we have all experienced too. Mozzy is a story teller. He does it in a way that he doesn’t glorify the things he does but, through his words he was a product of his environment.  Jay Rock comes in with the second verse

“It ain’t a game like Nintendo

Gotta watch how you movin’ on them ten toes”

These two lines are significant because, one he’s mentioning Nintendo which is my favorite gaming company. Secondly Jay Rock is saying basically; watch what’s going on around you. In this day I age everything can change in a blink of an eye.

This EP is only 6 tracks long. If you have about 17 minutes to kill please give this EP a listen. Mozzy does through this EP reclaims himself as “The voice of the Streets”. He doesn’t say this explicitly however, through his story he’s telling you understand why this isn’t a far off claim.  I wish this EP was longer but Mozzy does have more work being released in the near future. Until then give this a listen and enjoy.
